Enterprises operating globally often have to provide localized Solid Edge technical drawing files to their external subsidiaries or suppliers.

Upon changes to a drawing all work for translation of texts and title block has to be done again and again. The Solid Edge add-on package 'X-Language' offers an acknowledged solution which drastically helps to reduce the effort for translation and maintenance of draft files and also helps to avoid failures that usually are to happen:

Starting from a single drawing file, the file can be translated interactively or in batch by a simple press of a button! The translation affects special text boxes that have been placed on the drawing. Optionally the title block also might be updated or replaced by a location dependant template.

The translation process preserves any i.e. measurement data being part of the text. Placing a text box, while creating the drawing, allows seeing the maximum required rectangular area used by the text box for any of the available languages. This helps to avoid overlapping of text areas when the drawing has been translated later on.

The translation uses predefined text patterns kept in a central database file. The database itself might be easily expanded by text patterns and additional languages. It also defines the localized texts for the graphical user interface of the interactive programs and the localized log file message entries of the batch processing programs. This allows extending the program suite by new language capabilities without the need of new compilation.
